Board Computers

The ruggedized on-board computers based on the Advint platform are computers for data acquisition and control of critical processes with high reliability, meeting environmental robustness standards making them capable of operating in adverse environments, high and low pressure, dust, high vibration and impact. Check out the standards!

Three controller configurations are offered, based on National Instruments hardware platforms: cDAQ; cRIO; and sbRIO. These controllers allow for a range of hardware configurations covering:

  • Processing: Embedded processing from low computational demand to high-capacity processing systems.
  • FPGA: FPGA integrated in the controller, allowing the acquisition and control of processes at high acquisition and command rates. It also allows the implementation of communication interfaces and protocols with high data transfer capacity.
  • Available data interfaces: The entire C series of National Instruments interface cards is available to choose from for integration into the on-board computer, covering the full spectrum of analog and digital interfaces on the market. Check out the possibilities directly on the National Instruments website*.
  • Operating System: Select between Microsoft Windows and Linux Real Time.
  • Programming  languages: Preferably NI LabVIEW, you can integrate programs from any language running on Windows and Linux.
  • Connectors: An extensive list of connector types are available for use as interface connectors, allowing simple, robust connections while maintaining the system’s environmental requirements.
  • Network: Various digital buses and network buses are available as communication interfaces in the on-board computers.
  • Node integration: Based on National Instruments technologies, the computers allow synchronization of data acquisition and control nodes, enabling distributed acquisition and control with high determinism. Check out the synchronization capabilities!
  • Signal conditioning: Omega7 Systems can design integrated circuits for signal conditioning specific to the on-board computer application, with the signal conditioning remaining internal to the computer, keeping the entire solution integrated and complying with environmental regulations.

All platforms provide an IP67 rating, and retain the ability to withstand shock and vibration in an enclosure designed and evolved by Advint’s years of experience.

AdvintDAQ and AdvintRIO systems can be accessed via USB or Ethernet, delivered ready to be connected to existing field wiring for easy deployment.

Advint’s solutions take NI products where they can’t go alone – to rugged, remote and outdoor locations. Our systems can be mounted directly on outdoor structures, in vehicles and closer to the sensor in oil and gas, energy and other condition monitoring applications.

The AdvintDAQ and AdvintRIO platforms are ideal for automotive, off-highway vehicle, test cell, machine condition monitoring, field service and advanced industrial monitoring and control applications.

The Piranha platform uses an NI single-board RIO (sbRIO) module, NI C-series I/O modules and customized circuits. Piranha systems are not dependent on a separate host computer. They offer Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity to a powerful real-time controller and high-performance FPGA (field-programmable gate array) and up to two (2) C-Series I/O modules. It provides autonomous embedded execution for deterministic applications in LabVIEW Real-Time.

These controllers are designed for robustness, reliability and low power consumption. The heart of the Piranha system is the reconfigurable I/O (RIO) FPGA core. The RIO core has an individual connection for each I/O module and is programmed using easy-to-use elementary I/O functions to read or write signal information from each module. Several units can also be changed for larger applications.

Datasheet Specification

The Mako platform is based on the use of the NI CompactDAQ (cDAQ) product line, which consists of a chassis, NI C Series I/O modules and a Windows host computer connected via USB, Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Mako systems provide an easy, flexible and expandable platform to meet the needs of any electrical or sensor measurement system. They control timing, synchronization and data transfer between a host computer and up to eight (8) C Series I/O modules.

A single Mako can manage several timing engines to perform up to seven separate hardware-timed I/O tasks at different sampling rates in the same system. Several units can also be changed for larger applications.

The Snakehead platform uses an NI CompactRIO (cRIO) system consisting of an embedded controller, chassis and NI C series I/O modules. Snakehead systems do not rely on a separate host computer. They offer Ethernet and Wi-Fi connectivity to a powerful real-time controller with a user-upgradable back panel that includes a high-performance field-programmable gate array (FPGA). Snakehead provides autonomous embedded execution for deterministic applications in LabVIEW Real-Time.

These units are designed for robustness, reliability and low power consumption. The heart of Snakehead systems is the reconfigurable I/O (RIO) FPGA core. The RIO core has an individual connection for each I/O module and is programmed using easy-to-use elementary I/O functions to read or write signal information from each module.
